Thanks Now

  • People to Thank

Without a shadow of doubt, my wife Pauline, without whose support and ability to juggle the family finances, none of this would have eventuated. And I do not forget my two girls, Debbie and Lisa, who knew even at a very early age, when to quietly and discreetly move out of the train room so daddy could say, "bother".

  • Mr Henrick Dorbeck, without whose prodding, cajoling and swinging about of my modellers saw, would never have seen me get this far.

  • Mr David Monro, from Green Ahead, Palmerston North, NZ. He has been the epitome of patience in this venture. Both of us hit a mean learning curve and have since acquired considerable DCC knowledge about digital products.

To these people I simply say 'Thank You'.

  • What Now?

  • I'm looking at G gauge for the garden!

A friend of mine has got me involved in this gauge. I bought a couple of LBG '30th Year Anniversary 'Stainz' Starter Sets' in March 99 and pieced the track together on the lawn. After seeing the trains operate so smoothly I'm now smitten. Recently I installed a digital chip into one of these locomotives and we were both impressed with the constant lighting that DCC offers, especially at night time travelling through the garden. I hope that I will be able to spend time on the Burghausen Lokalbahn in Winter, and in Summer spend time outside on the G gauge railway. Should be a good compromise, Pauline keeps telling me I should spend more time in the garden!!!

The 'Stainz' 0_4_0T locomotive in the Starter Sets aren't produced looking like these. They are shiny black with a shiny green cab and golden parts installed. I pulled these two locomotives to pieces, right down to the individual parts (except for the wheel mechanism unit) and painted them in a two pot polyurethane product called DuPont Imron 700. It is a car paint with a matt replacing the gloss clear agent. I'm pretty chuffed with the finished effort as this is my first attempt at painting and weathering a locomotive. All I have to do now is paint and weather the stake wagons! They should all look alright when I've finished them.
